Okay, so a while back, I saw this Patek Philippe Nautilus 5726 at the official store, and man, it was love at first sight. That sleek steel, the annual calendar, the moon-phase display… just wow. But let’s be real, the price tag was way out of my league. I mean, who just casually drops that kind of cash on a watch?

But the dream didn’t die there. I started thinking, what if I could remake it myself? I did some digging, you know, just browsing around the internet. I found out that the original comes with an alligator strap and that there’s even a stainless steel version. And then I saw the price tag, S$136,363! Like, seriously? That’s insane. But it did give me hope. If people are willing to pay that much for a watch, maybe my remake could be worth something too, even if it is just for me.

So, I got to work. I mean, I’m no watchmaker, but I’m pretty handy. I started by gathering all the materials I could find. I used some cheaper metals, definitely not the same quality as the original, but hey, it’s a start. I even managed to find a replica of the movement, which, let me tell you, was not easy.

My Process of Remake

  • Sourcing Parts: This was a real pain. I spent hours online trying to find parts that looked similar. I found some decent dials and hands, but the case was the hardest part.
  • Assembling the Movement: I watched a ton of videos online, and let me tell you, it’s harder than it looks. I broke a few parts, ngl, but I eventually got it working.
  • Crafting the Case: Since I couldn’t find a perfect replica, I decided to make my own. I used some basic metalworking tools and a lot of patience. It’s not perfect, but it resembles the original shape.
  • Putting It All Together: This was the most satisfying part. Seeing all the individual pieces come together was amazing. It took a lot of trial and error, but I finally had my own Nautilus 5726 remake!

I wore my finished product to a gathering recently. My friends were all impressed by the craftsmanship, even though I told them it wasn’t a real Patek. But hey, it looked pretty darn close! A few of them even asked if I could make one for them. I might start a little side hustle, who knows?

Anyway, the whole process took me a few months of work, mostly on weekends and late nights. It was tough, frustrating at times, but also incredibly rewarding. I learned so much about watches and about my own ability to create something from scratch. Plus, now I have a pretty cool watch that I’m proud of, even if it’s not the real deal. And who knows, maybe one day I’ll be able to afford the actual 5726. But until then, I’m pretty happy with my handmade version.
