Alright, so I finally pulled the trigger and got myself a copy of the OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch, the one with the open case back. Let me tell you, it was a journey.

First off, I spent ages looking around. I mean, this watch, it’s got history, you know? It’s not just something you buy on a whim. And I really wanted that open case back. It’s just cool to see all those little gears and things moving around. It’s like a tiny city in there. So I was searching online, reading what people were saying about this watch.

I found a bunch of discussions about whether Omega should even offer an open case back on the Speedy. Some folks were saying “Yes, it is a good watch!”, others were like, “Nah, stick to the classic.” Me? I’m all for the open back. I remember reading somewhere that Omega did offer a hesalite crystal with the exhibition case back at some point, but they don’t anymore. That’s a bummer, but oh well.

Then, I stumbled upon this thing about the OM Factory SpeedMaster Moonwatch Series V2. They were saying it had a better dial and case kit. That got me thinking, maybe a copy is the way to go. I mean, the real deal is expensive, and copies can be pretty good these days, right?

I also saw people talking about how to open the case back. Apparently, some Speedys have plain backs without notches. Mine thankfully has notches. But it’s good to know what to do and what not to do when you’re messing with a watch like this.

  • Dos: Be careful, use the right tools, and take your time.
  • Don’ts: Don’t force anything, don’t scratch the case, and don’t lose any tiny screws.

I kept digging, reading about the caliber 3861 Master Chronometer movement, the new case, dial, and case back on the real Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch. It’s all pretty technical, but it’s interesting stuff. This watch, it’s a real piece of engineering. There are even some videos online of people reviewing this watch. It is a good one, and I think that it is one of the most iconic watches of time.

I’ve been eyeing the Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch for a while. I mean, it’s not just a watch, it’s a statement. And this copy, it’s pretty darn good. It looks great, feels solid, and has that awesome open back. This copy is a little bit cheaper, but you know, I think I have made a good choice.

This copy, it’s got that classic Speedmaster look, you know, the black dial, the white hands, the tachymeter bezel. It’s a good-looking watch. And with the open case back, you get to see all the inner workings. It’s like a little mechanical ballet going on in there. And they say that the authentic OMEGA watches from authorised retailers have a warranty card, which includes the 8-digit numeric or 7-digit alphanumeric serial number. I have checked mine, and I think it is okay.

As for winding, I read that about 25 turns should fully wind an automatic watch. And you can’t overwind them, so that’s good. I have a screw-down crown, so I have to unscrew it first before winding. But it is easy.

So, yeah, I’m pretty stoked with my new copy OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch. It was a bit of a process, but I think it was worth it. It’s a beautiful watch, and I’m happy to finally have it on my wrist.
