So, I’ve been eyeing this OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch for a while now, the one with the open case back. You know, the kind where you can see all the little gears and stuff moving around? Pretty neat, huh? Well, I finally decided to pull the trigger and get one.
First thing I did was hit up a few specialty stores. I mean, you can’t just walk into any old place to get a watch like this, right? These stores are like, the real deal. They’ve got all the fancy stuff, and the people there actually know what they’re talking about. I checked out a couple of these stores near me, just to see what they had and get a feel for the prices.
Talking about prices, this thing wasn’t cheap. We’re talking around $6,470, give or take, for the Moonwatch with the sapphire crystal and the open caseback. Yeah, it’s a chunk of change, but hey, it’s an OMEGA, and it’s the freakin’ Moonwatch!
Anyway, I did some digging around, and apparently, this whole open caseback thing is a big deal. I found out that it can ruin your watch experience if not handled carefully. I read that you should use a three-pronged opener or something if you ever need to open it, but I’m not planning on doing that anytime soon.
I also discovered that this particular model, the one I got, has the reference number 311.30.42.30.01.006. It’s got this cool display caseback and a sapphire crystal protecting the dial. The watch is about 42mm in diameter and 13mm thick. Feels pretty solid on my wrist, but not too heavy.
- Size: The watch itself is 42mm across, and about 13mm thick.
- Looks: Super-LumiNova on the hands and the little hour markers, which is the same stuff they use on other Speedmasters.
- Comfort: Even though it’s 42mm, it doesn’t feel huge on my wrist. Actually, it’s more comfortable than some of my smaller watches.
The coolest part, though, is that it’s a manual winding watch. That’s right, no batteries here. You gotta wind it up yourself, just like the astronauts did back in the day when they went to the moon. I mean, how cool is that? It’s like having a little piece of history on your wrist.
This watch is inspired by astronaut spacesuits, and also has some red details on it, which is pretty nice looking. So that’s the story of how I got my OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch with the open caseback. It was a bit of a process, but totally worth it. Now I’ve got a killer timepiece and a cool story to go along with it.
