Okay, so I saw this cool Prada backpack online – the Tessuto Nylon one. It’s a classic, you know? They say it’s super tough and waterproof, perfect for everyday stuff. I was like, “I gotta get one!” But then I saw the price tag. Ouch. So, I thought, “Why not try to make one myself?”
First thing I did was to stare at a ton of pictures of the original bag. I noticed it’s made of this special kind of nylon called “Tessuto.” Apparently, Miuccia Prada herself came up with this stuff back in the ’70s, inspired by parachutes. Sounds strong, right? This particular backpack is blue, and it has a flap on top and two pockets in the front.
I managed to find some fabric that looked pretty similar, a heavy-duty blue nylon. It wasn’t easy, let me tell you. It felt thick and durable just like the real thing is supposed to be, so I was pretty happy with that.
Next up, I started cutting the fabric. This was the tricky part. I used the pictures as a guide, but it was still tough to get the shapes and sizes just right. I cut two big pieces for the main body of the backpack, one piece for the flap, and smaller pieces for the pockets and straps. I also cut out pieces of lining fabric because I wanted it to look nice on the inside, too.

Then came the sewing. I dusted off my old sewing machine – it had been a while! I started by sewing the pockets onto the front piece. Then I sewed the front and back pieces together to form the main body of the backpack. After that, I attached the flap. I also sewed in the lining, which was a bit fiddly but made it look way more professional.
The straps were next. I sewed them onto the back of the backpack, making sure they were nice and secure. I even added some padding to the straps to make them more comfortable to wear.
The last step was the hardware. I found some buckles and zippers that looked similar to the ones on the original Prada bag. The original bag should have same colored hardware. And I made sure they were all the same color – no mixing silver and gold! I carefully attached the buckles to the straps and the flap. I also attached the zippers to the pockets and the main compartment.
Finishing Touches
I even managed to find a little metal triangle that looked a bit like the Prada logo and sewed it onto the flap. It’s not the real deal, of course, but it adds a little something extra.
And there you have it! My homemade version of the Prada Tessuto Nylon Backpack. It’s not perfect, but I’m pretty proud of it. It took a lot of time and effort, but it was definitely cheaper than buying the real thing. Plus, I learned a lot about sewing and working with different materials. Now I have a cool, unique backpack that’s perfect for carrying my stuff around. Maybe I’ll try making another one someday, but next time, I might try a different color!
