Okay, so, I’ve been wanting to get into this project for a while, and today I finally did it. I tried to remake the Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse 5738R, the original one. I’m not gonna lie, it was a bit of a challenge, but a fun one!
I started by gathering all the materials. I mean, I had to make sure I got this right. You don’t just jump into remaking a classic without the proper preparation. I spent some time looking for the materials that I thought would be best. It is the most important part of the whole process. I had to do a lot of research to get the right look and feel.
The Process
- Research, Research, Research: First things first, I dove deep into understanding the design. I looked at tons of pictures, read articles, and even watched some videos about the original Golden Ellipse. I wanted to get a real feel for its proportions and that unique “golden ratio” they talk about. It’s supposed to be 1 to 1.6181 or something like that. Sounds fancy, huh?
- Getting the Right Stuff: Next, I had to find the right materials. It needed to be good quality but also not crazy expensive. I spent hours comparing different materials and ended up with something I think will work nicely. I tried my best to match the color and texture of the original. I think the strap was the hardest part.
- Putting It Together: This was the tricky part. I carefully started assembling everything, taking my time to make sure it was as close to the original as possible. I even used some old-school techniques to give it that vintage vibe. I’m not gonna pretend I’m an expert, but I think I did a pretty good job, all things considered.
- The Final Touches: Once I had the main body, I focused on the little details, the things that really make the watch stand out. I polished it up, made sure everything was working smoothly, and, you know, gave it that final bit of love.
And there you have it. It is finished. It’s not perfect, obviously, but I’m super happy with how it turned out. It’s a nice little tribute to a true classic, and it’s something I can proudly say I made myself. It’s a pretty cool feeling, to be honest. I learned a lot, that is for sure. If anyone else is thinking about doing something like this, I’d say go for it! Just be prepared to put in the work, and don’t be afraid to make a few mistakes along the way. It is all part of the process.
Maybe I’ll try another one someday. Who knows?
