CopyOMEGA Dark Side of the Moon (Apollo 8) | Official Flagship Store vs. Other Retailers

Alright, so, I got myself into this whole watch thing. Not just any watch, mind you, but this fancy one called the CopyOMEGA Ω Speedmaster 310.92.44.50.01.001. Yeah, the one they call “Dark Side of the Moon” Apollo 8. Sounds like something outta a sci-fi movie, right? Official flagship store purchase, no less. Felt like a big shot, I gotta say.

First off, I had to figure out what the heck this watch even was. I mean, I liked the look of it, all black and sleek, but there had to be more to it than that. Turns out, it’s a tribute to that Apollo 8 mission, you know, the one where they first went around the moon? Pretty cool, huh? So, I started digging.

I went down a rabbit hole, let me tell you. Looked up all sorts of stuff about the Speedmaster, how it’s got this whole history with NASA and astronauts. I even read that Neil Armstrong himself wore one, though he left it on the lunar module as a backup timer. Can you believe that? A backup timer!

Getting Down to Business

Once I was all hyped up on the history and all that, I figured it was time to actually, you know, get the watch. Now, I ain’t made of money, but I’d been saving up, and this felt like a worthwhile splurge. Plus, apparently, these things hold their value pretty well, so it’s kind of like an investment, right? At least that’s what I told myself.

So, I marched myself into the official flagship store. Felt a bit outta place, if I’m honest. Everyone was so… polished. But I held my head high, told ’em what I was after, and they brought it out. Man, it was even better in person. They let me try it on, and it fit like a dream. 42mm, they said. Symmetrical case. Felt solid, but not too heavy.

They explained how the watch is tough and designed to withstand a lot, I think, the word they used is “Durability”. And the movement inside, which I learned is like the engine of the watch, is super precise. They call it the 3869, which is apparently based on the 3861. It’s supposed to only gain or lose like 5 seconds a day. That’s not bad at all.

And get this, the back of the watch has a picture of the far side of the moon on it! The side we never see from Earth. How wild is that? The front has a picture of the near side, too. I thought, this is the most fun thing ever.

Anyway, after a lot of hemming and hawing, I finally pulled the trigger. Forked over the cash, and walked out of there with that beauty on my wrist. Been wearing it every day since. Makes me feel like a million bucks, even if I’m just going to the grocery store.

The Aftermath

  • Proud Owner: I strutted around, showing it off to anyone who’d look. My neighbor, old Mrs. Henderson, didn’t quite get it, but she said it looked “smart.”
  • Daily Wear: It’s been a few weeks now, and I wear it everywhere. Feels good on the wrist, not too heavy.
  • Still Learning: I keep finding out new little details about it. Like, apparently, it’s a pretty big deal in the watch world. Who knew?
  • Happy Camper: No regrets. It’s a conversation starter, and honestly, it just makes me happy to look at it. It’s like having a little piece of history on my wrist.

So yeah, that’s my story about getting the CopyOMEGA Speedmaster Apollo 8 “Dark Side of the Moon.” It was a whole adventure, from learning about its history to finally getting my hands on it. And you know what? I’d do it all over again in a heartbeat.
