Remake PRADA Cahier Bag: Affordable Luxury at This Online Store

Okay, so today I’m diving into a little DIY project that I’ve been itching to share – remaking a Prada Cahier bag. I have always thought it was a very beautiful and practical bag, but the official website price is really too high, so I decided to remake one myself.

First off, I hit up a few online secondhand stores. I was hoping to find a cheap original bag to repurpose, maybe even use some of its parts. I checked out a couple of online stores and saw a lot of them were selling it at a lower price than the official one, but they were still a little bit pricey for what I had in mind. I thought about what to do next, I decided to make it entirely from scratch!

I started gathering materials. I went to the local shops, hoping to find some good quality leather and some sturdy hardware, which I was also trying to save costs on.

  • Leather: Found a decent black calf leather, not the exact same as the Prada one, but it had a nice feel to it.
  • Hardware: This was a bit trickier. I couldn’t find the exact Prada buckles and studs. I spent the whole day looking for it, but I ended up settling for some similar-looking ones that still had that classy vibe. They are not the same, but they look similar.
  • Lining: I got some durable fabric for the inside.

Then came the actual making part. I found a basic pattern of a bag and start to adjust it to look like the Cahier. I sketched out the design I wanted, making sure to get the dimensions right and the look of the bag right. I cut the leather according to my pattern. This took a while because I wanted to be precise, and leather can be a bit tough to work with.

Sewing everything together was a whole other challenge. I used my old sewing machine. It took me a whole weekend just to get the main body of the bag assembled. I double-stitched everything to make sure it was strong.

Attaching the hardware was fun but a bit of a pain. I had to punch holes in the leather and make sure everything lined up perfectly. It took me a whole afternoon to figure out the trick. After a few tries, I finally got it right.

The Result

After all the hard work, I gotta say, I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. It’s not a perfect replica, obviously. The leather is not exactly the same, and the hardware is a bit different. But it definitely has that Prada Cahier vibe! It’s sturdy, looks pretty cool, and I made it myself, which makes it even more special. I carried it out the other day, and I felt really good about it. Even got a couple of compliments! It’s not about fooling anyone into thinking it’s the real deal, but about having a stylish bag without breaking the bank. Also, doing something yourself is rewarding.

This was a fun little project. It took a lot of time and effort, but I learned a lot, and I ended up with a unique bag that I love. If you’re thinking about doing something similar, go for it! Just be prepared to put in the work. And remember, it’s all about the process and the satisfaction of creating something yourself.
