Alright, so I’ve been messing around with my watches again. This time, I got this CopyOMEGA Ω Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch, the classic style, you know? The one that looks like it’s been to the moon and back, but this one’s got a little something extra – an open case back. Let me tell you, it’s been a bit of a journey.
Getting Started
First off, I’ve always dug the look of those Omega movements. They’re like tiny, intricate cities ticking away on your wrist. But, the thing is, not all of them let you see what’s going on inside. That’s where this project started. I wanted that classic Speedmaster look, but I also wanted to see the guts of the thing.
The Process
Now, I’m no watchmaker, not even close. But I’m pretty handy, and I like to figure things out. So, I did some digging around. I found out that you can actually get these transparent case backs for Speedmasters. Apparently, they used to make them like that back in the day, but not anymore. Turns out, finding one of these case backs was the first hurdle. I finally tracked one down after a bit of searching.
- Next, I had to get the old case back off. Now, this is where you gotta be careful. You don’t want to scratch up your watch. There’s this little indentation around the edge of the back.
- You can use a watch case opener tool, which is the right way to do it, or if you’re feeling brave, a small flathead screwdriver can work. I went with the screwdriver ’cause, well, I like to live dangerously, I guess. Just kidding, be careful!
- Once I got the old back off, putting the new one on was pretty straightforward. It just popped right into place. It was like it was meant to be there all along.
The Result
And let me tell you, it was worth it. Now I’ve got this classic-looking Speedmaster, but with a little window to the soul of the watch. It’s like having the best of both worlds. I can wear it around, and it looks like any other Speedmaster, but when I flip it over, I can see all those gears and springs working their magic. It’s pretty darn cool, if I do say so myself. It’s like looking at a tiny, beautiful machine right there on my wrist. I find myself just staring at it sometimes, watching it tick.
So, that’s my little watch project. It wasn’t too hard, but it did take a bit of patience and a steady hand. If you’re into watches and you’ve got a Speedmaster, I’d say it’s definitely something to consider. It really adds a whole new dimension to the watch, being able to see the movement like that. You guys should give it a try sometime!
