Okay, so, I’ve been seeing these Rolex GMT-Master II “Root Beer” watches pop up everywhere lately. They’ve got this cool brown and black bezel, and they just look slick. But, you know, a real one costs more than my car. So, I started digging around to see if I could find a decent replica, you know, something that looks the part without, like, bankrupting me.
First, I scoured the internet. I checked out all sorts of forums and websites where people talk about replica watches. It’s a bit of a wild west out there, gotta be honest. Lots of sketchy sites and questionable sellers. But I read a ton of reviews and started to get a feel for which ones were, you know, at least somewhat reputable. I am not a watch expert, but I also collected some real Rolex GMT-Master II information and compared them.
I noticed that the original “Root Beer” is ref 16713, and came out in 1989. And then I found that Rolex stopped making them in 2006. So, my goal changed, I decided to find a high-imitation version of the 16713. Some people suggest Amazon, I checked that, but I am not sure about their product.
After a while, I narrowed it down to a few sellers that seemed okay. Then, I dug into their specific offerings. I was looking at the photos, zooming in on the details, trying to see if the colors looked right, if the fonts were close, that kind of stuff. It’s tricky because, obviously, they’re not going to be perfect, but I wanted something that was at least in the ballpark.
- I compared the bezel colors – that was a big one. The real “Root Beer” has a very specific shade of brown.
- I looked at the cyclops, the little magnifying bubble over the date. It needed to be the right size and in the right spot.
- I even checked out the font on the dial, especially the “GMT-Master II” part.
Finally, I pulled the trigger on one. It wasn’t cheap, even for a replica, but it was a lot less than a real Rolex. When it arrived, I was pretty stoked. It actually looked really good! I mean, I’m sure a real watch expert could spot the differences, but to the untrained eye, it’s pretty darn convincing.
I’ve been wearing it for a few weeks now, and I’m really happy with it. It keeps time well, it feels solid on my wrist, and it definitely gets some looks. Plus, I don’t have to worry about losing or damaging a super expensive watch, which is a nice bonus.
So, yeah, that’s my little adventure into the world of high-imitation Rolex GMT-Master II “Root Beer” watches. It was a bit of a process, but I think it was worth it in the end. It is almost guaranteed to maintain its value. If you’re thinking about getting one, just do your research, be careful who you buy from, and don’t expect perfection. But if you’re cool with that, you might end up with a pretty sweet watch for a fraction of the price.
