Alright, so I’ve been itching to get my hands on a new watch lately, and I’ve had my eye on the Patek Philippe Nautilus 5712. I’ve been going back and forth on it for a while, but I finally decided to pull the trigger. You know, life’s too short, why not treat yourself, right?
I started by doing some research online, just to make sure I knew what I was getting into. From what I saw, the strap version of the 5712 was discontinued in 2024, which is a bummer, but it is what it is.
Next, I went to visit my local watch guy who’s helped me out before. I showed him some pictures of the 5712 and told him that’s what I wanted to do a remake on. He took a good look and said he’d need to get some parts in, but he thought it was doable. It’s gonna be a project, for sure.
I noticed that the PPF 5712 Nautilus apparently has a true clone movement. This caught my attention because a good movement is key to any watch. I’ve heard it’s a real beauty, and I’m excited to see it in person.
We talked about the case too. It’s only 8.52mm thick, which is pretty impressive. I’m not gonna lie, that thinness is a big part of the appeal for me. It just looks so sleek and elegant.
So, my watch guy placed the orders for the parts. I had to wait a few weeks for everything to come in, but it was worth it. Once he had all the pieces, he started putting the watch together. Watching him work was pretty cool, he’s a real craftsman. It’s crazy how many tiny parts go into one of these things.
After a couple of days, the watch was ready. Man, when I saw it in person, I was blown away. It looked even better than the pictures. It’s such a classic style, you know?
Here’s what we did:
- Researched the PP Nautilus 5712 online.
- Visited my local watch guy.
- Ordered the necessary parts, including a clone movement.
- Waited for the parts to arrive.
- Assembled the watch, admiring the thin 8.52mm case.
- Admired the finished product, a beautiful remake of the classic 5712.
I’ve been wearing it for a few days now, and I’ve gotta say, I’m loving it. It’s comfortable, it looks great, and it keeps time like a charm. It wasn’t cheap, but I think it was worth every penny. This thing is gonna be on my wrist for a long, long time.
My thoughts
This whole process has been a blast. From the initial research to actually wearing the finished product, it’s been a really fun ride. I learned a lot about watches, and I got to see a true craftsman at work. If you’re thinking about getting a remake, I say go for it. Just make sure you find someone who knows what they’re doing, and be prepared to spend some money. But trust me, it’s worth it.
