So, I saw this PRADA Dynamique Hobo Bag online the other day, and I thought, “Hey, I could totally make that!” I mean, it looked simple enough, right? A little bit of fabric, some stitching, and bam! Designer bag on a budget.
First, I went to my favorite online fabric store and ordered some leather fabric. It took around 3 days to receive it, so I could start my project.
I searched some patterns, chose a similar one, and printed it out. And then, cut the pattern pieces out of the fabric. This part was a little tricky because the fabric was kind of thick, and my scissors weren’t exactly the sharpest. But I managed to get it done.
Next up was the sewing part. I dusted off my old sewing machine, which I hadn’t used in ages, and got to work. I started by sewing the side seams together. And it’s not easy to use sewing machine for me! I made some mistakes, but I tried my best to make it work.
- Sewing the sides of the bag.
- Adding the bottom panel.
- Stitching on the straps.
And then, I needed to make the straps. I cut two long strips of fabric, sewed them together. I attached them to the bag, making sure they were nice and secure. It’s a crucial step of making the bag, or it will be useless.
Finishing touches
I added a zipper to the top of the bag, which was probably the hardest part of the whole project. The zipper was quite long. But I finally got it in there after a few tries.
Finally, I turned the bag right side out and admired my handiwork. It wasn’t exactly like the picture of the real one, but it was pretty close! And the most important thing is, I made it myself! I used this bag to go shopping today, it’s perfect!
I’m pretty proud of how it turned out. It’s not perfect, but it’s definitely unique. And it was a fun project to do. Maybe I’ll try making another designer bag sometime soon. Any suggestions?
